Drew Lopez
Born and raised in New York City. It sculpted who I am as a person, for the good (comfortable in chaos) and the bad (a lifetime of sporting disappointment).
I grew up with a love for everything comic related and I grew up in the perfect era for it, with a near constant stream of Marvel and DC movies to choose from. I loved the movies so much I'd go on deep dives where I’d learn everything I could, from who was rumored to be cast, to why everyone was outraged by the director's final choice.
This eventually led me to more questions. Why did this scene VFX look good or bad? Why did they shoot this scene in this way? Why did they cut this scene? Ultimately, all of the questions left me determined to learn the answers for myself, firsthand.
If I was to learn about the principles of filmmaking, I needed to start looking outside of my comic book bubble. I started watching classic movies, TV shows, commercials and music videos to understand how these principles can be used in all mediums.
Once I had an understanding of all these things, I knew I needed to be a part of this world and would do whatever it took to get that opportunity. That opportunity came when I was offered the role of a production assistant on a short film. I knew I needed to make the most of this, I spent as much time there as possible, getting as involved as I could and immersing myself in the process, learning by watching and asking yet more questions. I knew from the moment I stepped on set that film would be a major part of my life and I needed to make that happen.
I’ve never lost that curiosity, the need to understand the mechanics and ask questions of myself and others until I can answer those questions. That is what drives my creativity and passion to produce highly impactful, award winning work. Since working on that short film, I have been honing my craft as a producer, consistently delivering success for brands, clients and agencies alike.
